| Exciting world class dance competitions in Penang
Ever wished you could move like
Twyla Tharp and Nijinsky? Well, your dreams may just come true when two world
class dance competitions will be held in Penang this month. They are the
11th Penang International Open Dance Sport Championship 2004 on 27 Nov at
the Bayview Beach Resort and the 5th Malaysia International Open Dance
Sport Championship 2004 on 28 Nov at PISA. Both events proudly brought to
you by The Penang State Goverment and the Malaysian Dancers' Association.
Some of the world's best
dancers will flash and flaunt their expertise in a colourful, heated atmosphere
filled with with music, and bop to the waltz, foxtrot, tango, quick step,
rhumba, pass adobe and other dance styles.
Judges for the event include
Robin Short, the honourary life president of the World Dance and Dance Sport
Council, Raff Lepehne from Germany, Olga Garchina from Russia and others
from Japan, Australia, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and
Thailand.
The organisers promise
a spectacular feast of variety and skill with synchronised rhythm and music,
poise and artistry, transforming dancing into "poetry in motion". Gasp as
dancers, lost within the music, strut and stride through their musically
attuned and witty dance moves. Swoon as their spiralling and spinning bodies
clothed in sequins and gilded accessories produce colorful and bejewelled
images across the dancefloor.
The judges of the competition
will be on the look-out for several elements in the dancers' performance:
the "togetherness" of the competing couples, their poise, their "musicality"
or how their movements tune with the flow of music played. The contestants
will also be judged on musical interpretation and, of course, techniques
like footwork.
Incidentally, dance sport
has been slotted as an event during the firthcominh 2008 Beijing Olympiad.
Nations from the western
continent as well as the far east are sending top dancers to the competition
this year. Participating countries include England, Germany, Russia, Italy,
Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Phillipines, Chinese Taipei,
Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Thailand and host country Malaysia.

Amateur Modern, Open Professional Modern, Open Amateur Latin and open
