Penang Culinary Expo 2004
2 to 4 July   •  Venue: Penang International Sports Arena (PISA)

Come month of July, the annual Food and Fruits Festival will be celebrated nationwide. For Penang, the month-long celebration will be kicked-off by the Penang Culinary Expo 2004. Organized by the Chefs' Association of Malaysia Penang Chapter with the support from Penang State Tourism Action Council, the event is schedule to be held from July 2 to 4, 2004 at Penang International Sports Arena (PISA).

The expo, aimed at promoting various cuisines as tourism products is also seen as an opportunity for manufacturers, distributors and suppliers of kitchen machineries, equipment and fittings to showcase and market their products. Members of the public can expect to witness and experience first-hand information on latest equipments and products at the fair.

Supplementing the event will be three subsidiaries activities namely Penang Culinary Challenge, iFOODex and Northern Malaysia Food and Catering/ Food Pack.

The 1st Penang Culinary Challenge 2004 is set to feature a tough battle between 20 teams from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Each team comprising of four chefs and cooks, will be battling for the Xteam Chef Awards in the team on the spot live cooking competition. They will have to cook and present a three-course menu for six persons within 60 minutes time. The best teams will walk home with not only certificates and trophy but also RM 10,000 cash to be won.

Meanwhile, visitors to the fair can enjoy various foods sampling from the iFOODex exhibition. Besides food and beverages showcase there will also be demonstrations on food preparation by top manufacturers. The Penang Tropical Farm will show cases their varieties of the freshness harvest during that period, durians, dragon fruits and etc.

Food and beverages retailers are also encouraged to visit the expo to update themselves of the latest equipments, utensils, products and packing machineries at the exhibition called Northern Malaysia Food & Catering/ Food Pack. Other related materials such as magazines and souvenirs are also available at the fair.

State Tourism Development and Environment committee chairman YB Teng Chang Yeow is expected to launch the event and also the month-long celebration that will turn the island into a food paradise.
