Getting to Langkawi

By Road

Visitors travelling by road have to drive to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis on the north-western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the main take-off points by ferry to Langkawi. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah takes about 6 hours while Kuala Perlis is another one hour away. Car parking facilities are available at both points.

By Air

The Langkawi international Airport at Padang Matsirat is about 20km from Kuah and 8km from the beach resorts in Pantai Cenang.

Direct air services from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi are provided by Malaysia Airlines on a daily basis and Air Asia five times weekly. Silk Air also flies regularly from Singapore to the island. There are also direct international flights to Langkawi from Osaka and Taipei.

By Rail

By Rail Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) or Malayan Railway provides comfortable and economical rail services from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar and Arau. From Alor Setar or Arau, you can take a taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis respectively and then proceed by ferry to Langkawi.

By Ferry

Express ferries provide regular services daily to Langkawi from both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis.

The journey to Langkawi from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis takes 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 minutes respectively.

Getting Around

To/From the Airport
Taxi from the airport cost RM12.00 to Kuah jetty and RM10.00 to Pantai Chenang. Buy a coupon at the desk before leaving the airport terminal and use it to pay the driver.

Bus
The bus station in Kuah is in front of the Citi Bayview Hotel. Bus ride from the jetty to the centre of Kuah is RM1.00 and to Pantai Chenang is RM1.70.

Taxi
Taxi is another option of getting around, but fares are high. From the Kuah jetty fares are: Kuah town (RM5.00), airport (rm15.00), Pantai Cenang/Pantai Tengah (RM12.00) and pantai Kok (RM20.00)
•
Car
Cars can be rented at the going rate of RM80.00 per day from the Kuah ferry terminal or at any beach resorts.
•
Motrocycle and bicycle
Motocycles can be hired at stands all over the island for about RM25.00 per day. Bicycles ara available for RM12.00 per day.
