The Open House concept in Malaysia is when families open their homes to welcome friends and relatives, who will duly drop by (sans invitation or appointment) and consume most of the hosts’ attention, food and cookies. This concept, often touted as a shinning example of the Muhibbah spirit or Malaysian hospitality, is for good reason, a seasonal affair only held in conjunction with festive occasions – few households can withstand constant, impromptu visits from well-meaning “family and friends” on a prolonged basis without cracking up or bursting into flames.

Can the Open House concept be adopted permanently? This website solves that problem. Unit twenty five two ten is open twenty four seven, three hundred sixty five days a year for all and sundry – family, friends, acquaintances or strangers.

Your visit to 25-2-10, albeit a virtual one, is the next best thing to the real thing. Adrian and Yvonne’s modest but tastefully furnished 800 sq feet apartment comes alive in this website crammed with information, tips and images.

At its superficial best, this website highlights Adrian’s exhibitionist tendencies (which unfortunately I am only too familiar with). On a more handy note, the website recounts Adrian’s experience in acquiring and decorating his first home on a limited budget. This may be of interest to those who are on virgin territory when setting up their newly-acquired home, although please be forewarned that his budget tactics include swiping relatives’ antique furniture and sleeping with the contractors for a bigger discount. Also noteworthy is the way he managed to reinvent his home each time with a “seasonal look” by switching a few items and paintings.

So, on behalf of the owners – welcome to 25-2-10 – and do make yourself feel at home.
